About the Beechcraft Baron

The Beechcraft Baron — also listed as the Beech Baron — is the twin-engine sibling of the Bonanza and one of the most respected piston twins ever built. It comes in two sub-families: the earlier, lighter 55-series (the Beech 95 B55 Baron and related models, four to five seats) and the stretched six-seat 58-series with double aft club doors, which remains in production today as the Garmin-equipped G58. The Baron pairs Bonanza build quality with the redundancy and speed of a second engine, and variants such as the 58P, E55 and G58 keep the Beechcraft Baron in steady demand.

Buying a Used Beechcraft Baron

When buying a Beechcraft Baron, the biggest value drivers are engine time since overhaul, maintenance-record completeness, damage history and avionics.

What to check before buying

  • Engine time to overhaul — hours and years remaining drive price more than total airframe time.
  • Logbook completeness — continuous, gap-free maintenance records protect value.
  • Damage history — any prior accident or incident; cross-check the registration against accident databases.
  • Avionics — a modern glass panel vs legacy steam gauges materially changes price.
  • Pre-buy inspection — always commission an independent inspection by a type-experienced mechanic before money changes hands.

Frequently Asked Questions — Beechcraft Baron

What is the difference between the Beechcraft Baron 55 and 58?
The 55 is the earlier, shorter aircraft with four to five seats and conventional doors; the 58 is stretched to six seats with double aft club doors and more useful load, and remains in production today as the G58.
What are the Baron 58, 58P and 58TC?
The standard 58 is unpressurised and normally aspirated; the 58TC adds turbocharging for better high-altitude performance; the 58P is pressurised. All seat six in a club cabin.
How much does a Beech Baron cost?
Used Baron prices range from early 55-series models at the bottom to late-model G58s at the top, varying with engine times, avionics and variant. See the live price range and median above.
How fast is the Beechcraft Baron and how far can it fly?
The 58 cruises around 200 to 215 knots with a range near 1,400 to 1,500 nautical miles; the lighter 55 cruises around 190 to 200 knots. Both run on two Continental engines.
How many seats does a Beechcraft Baron have?
The 55-series seats four to five; the 58-series seats six in a club layout.
Is the Baron a good first twin?
Yes — it is a popular, well-supported step-up twin with strong parts availability and Bonanza-like handling, though twin operating costs and multi-engine currency should be budgeted for.
What is the difference between the Bonanza and the Baron?
They share design heritage, but the Bonanza is a single-engine aircraft and the Baron is its twin-engine counterpart — faster and with engine redundancy, at higher purchase and running cost.
