Cessna Citation CJ1 Aircraft (CitationJet)

The Cessna Citation CJ1 is a six-seat light business jet - two turbofan engines, approximately 359 knots cruise, 1,150 nm range, and an FL410 ceiling. It is the entry point of the CJ (CitationJet) family, designed for owner-pilot operation under Part 91 with a single-pilot type rating. At six seats and over 1,000 nm range, it covers the US regional and short-haul European corporate missions that define the light jet market.

CJ1 versus CJ2, CJ3, and M2. The CJ family grew through successive models (CJ1, CJ1+, CJ2, CJ3, CJ4) with more range, speed, and useful load at each step. The CJ1's 359-knot cruise and 1,150 nm range are the floor of the family; the later CJ1+ adds speed and range on the same airframe. For routes beyond the CJ1's range, the CJ1+ or CJ2 are the logical steps, and the later M2 program offers around 404 knots and 1,300 nm with a modern avionics suite.

Owner-pilot light jet operation. The CJ1's single-pilot certification makes it viable for owner-pilots at the light jet entry point, and it also serves charter, management, and fractional roles as a sub-1,200 nm regional platform. A used-CJ1 pre-purchase should assess avionics currency (glass or analog), engine hot-section status, and airframe inspections appropriate to total time and cycles.

Buy it if you need single-pilot-certifiable light jet performance in the 1,150 nm envelope - and the CJ1's lower acquisition cost versus newer CJ-family models compensates for its lower cruise speed and range relative to the CJ2 and M2.
