Cessna Citation III / VII Aircraft in United States

The Cessna Citation III, VI, and VII are the swept-wing, T-tail large-cabin jets of the Model 650 family - certified to FL510 and cruising from about 431 to 459 knots depending on variant. They were a distinct engineering step in the Citation line: a swept wing that enabled much higher cruise speeds than the earlier straight-wing Citations, putting the 650 series in competition with the fast large-cabin jets of their era.

III, VI, and VII: the progression. The Citation III (1983-1991) came first, with the longest range of the family (around 2,054 nm). The Citation VI was a lower-cost, simplified-avionics interim model. The Citation VII (1992-2000) traded some range (around 1,730 nm) for more thrust and better hot-and-high and high-speed performance - so the older III actually carries more range than the newer VII, a deliberate trade rather than an anomaly. All are FL510, eight-to-ten-seat aircraft on the same basic airframe.

Swept-wing character and support. The 650 family's swept wing and T-tail give it different handling from the straight-wing Excel/Sovereign Citations, and pilots transitioning in should get type-specific training. Parts and maintenance support are established but require specialist familiarity with the swept-wing variant, which is less common than for the more numerous straight-wing Citations.

Buy it if you need FL510-capable, swept-wing Citation performance in the eight-to-ten-seat, 1,700-2,000 nm class - and the Model 650 family's speed and altitude capability justify choosing it over newer straight-wing Citations of comparable range.
