Retirement is the end of an era and this plane as been an amazingly outstanding work vehicle for me. Highly specced IFR with long range tip tanks to cruise at 160 kts TAS at 32l/hr.
I affordably did my Command Instrument Rating and Commercial Pilots license in this plane as well as travelling for work around Australia. This beautiful plane (affectionately called Fang) is wasted living in a hangar.
A full Classic Aero interior fit out with Australian leather and Aerox oxygen kit (2 tanks) allowed me to regularly capture 65 knt tailwinds with 215kt ground speed from Mt Isa to Brisbane at 17,000’ in comfort.
Fairings over protuberances such as aileron hinges, fuel drains etc added an extra 5kts so it cruises at 160kts TAS and at 9,000’ 32l/hr.
The engine has been operated with the expert knowledge gained from Advanced Pilot Seminars and has been fully maintained by LAME’s. The next annual is March 2026 and the Vans Service Bulletin J00036-Rev 3 for horizontal stabiliser rectifications were carried out June 2023
The prop is booked in for the $11,000 service/overhaul in January 2026 to give a 0 hour prop all included in the price.
Always hangared and under an airplane cover (pyjamas) when parked outside on trips.

About the Van's RV-7A
The Vans RV-7A is the tricycle-gear side-by-side RV for buyers who want strong experimental cross-country performance, responsive handling, and easier ground handling than the tailwheel RV-7. It is a builder-dependent aircraft, so the best example is the one with clean workmanship, complete records, and a configuration that matches the pilot. Compared with the RV-6A, the RV-7A is the later design direction; compared with the RV-8, it offers side-by-side seating instead of tandem.
Produced 2001.
