About Hawker Aircraft Company

Hawker is the storied British business-jet brand with a six-decade lineage running from the original de Havilland DH.125 (1962) through British Aerospace, Raytheon, Hawker Beechcraft and final Beechcraft Hawker production (2012). The Hawker 800 series (Hawker 800 / 800XP / 850XP / 900XP) was the segment-defining mid-size business jet for two decades with over 1,000 produced. The Beechjet 400 (later Hawker 400) is the light-jet family member, and the Hawker 4000 and Premier IA are the composite-airframe later additions. Hawker production ended in 2013 following Hawker Beechcraft's bankruptcy; the fleet remains widely supported through Textron Aviation authorised centres globally and the world's largest mid-size used market. There are currently 192 used Hawker aircraft for sale.

Frequently Asked Questions — Hawker

Is a used Hawker 800XP a good buy?

The Hawker 800XP can be an excellent value — used prices range from $2-3.5 million for a midsize jet that was originally $15M+ new. It is a true workhorse with a spacious stand-up cabin and transatlantic range. However, buyers must budget carefully: maintenance costs average $1,339/hour and older Hawkers need expensive scheduled inspections. The key warning from brokers: your acquisition cost might be low, but look at what is coming up for scheduled maintenance and double those costs for unscheduled maintenance.

What are common Hawker 800XP maintenance issues?

The main concerns on used Hawkers are age-related: corrosion (especially in wing structures and landing gear bays), avionics obsolescence (older Collins Pro Line systems need upgrades for modern airspace requirements), and escalating parts costs. The Honeywell TFE731 engines are reliable but overhauls cost $300,000-$400,000 per engine. Landing gear overhauls run $200,000+. The annual budget for a Hawker 800XP is approximately $395,543 fixed plus $2,696/hour variable. Always get a thorough pre-purchase inspection focused on upcoming maintenance events.

Is Hawker still making jets?

No. Hawker Beechcraft went bankrupt in 2012 and was acquired by Textron Aviation. No new Hawker jets have been produced since. However, Textron continues to support the existing Hawker fleet with parts and service through their global network. Over 700 Hawker 800 series jets remain in active service worldwide. The Hawker legacy lives on as one of the most successful British-designed business jets, originally developed by de Havilland and British Aerospace before becoming part of Raytheon, then Hawker Beechcraft.

Hawker 800XP vs Citation Excel — which midsize jet is better?

The Hawker 800XP offers a wider cabin (5.75 ft vs 5.5 ft), longer range (2,540 nm vs 1,960 nm), and the classic British build quality. The Citation Excel/XLS has lower operating costs ($2,200/hr vs $2,696/hr), a newer airframe design, and better short-field performance. The Excel also benefits from the massive Cessna/Textron service network. For long missions and cabin comfort, the Hawker wins. For lower costs and better support infrastructure, the Citation Excel is the pragmatic choice. On AeroGurus, we list both for side-by-side comparison.
