This means that when the gear is raised, it is locked up by a mechanical uplock AND hydraulic pressure. However, unlike a lot of others this Sierra's Emergency Gear Extension Procedure is a simple "unlock release the pressure" system. A small door on the floor right in front of the pilot's seat opens to give easy access to the release valve. One simply rotates it 90 degrees to unlock. This releases the pressure and as long as you are at the recommended speed, gravity pulls the gear down and it extends. No pumping or cranking handles... just great engineering. Normal gear extension speed is 135 knots so you have a great speed brake when needed !!!
