The student pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing which resulted in a runway excursion and collapse of the nose landing gear. A contributing factor was the pilot's inadequate compensation for the crosswind condition. Additional factors were the downhill slope and the ditch encountered during the accident sequence.

Apr 28, 2006 Honolulu, HI N790SP Incident substantial the pilot's misjudged flare resulting in a hard landing and a porpoise pilot induced oscillation.

the student's inadequate compensation for the crosswind gust and failure to maintain directional control. Also causal was the flight instructor's inadequate supervision of the flight, and his failure to maintain directional control. A factor was control interference between the two pilots during the initial stages of the loss of control.
