Agusta A109 Helicopter 2000s
Originally built by Agusta / AgustaWestland, now part of Leonardo Helicopters.
2000s helicopters include AgustaWestland/Leonardo AW109/AW139 (entered production), Bell 429 (2009+, light twin), modern EC130 T2 / H130, MD 600N production end. Modern avionics with glass cockpits, four-axis autopilots, crashworthy seats. Material safety improvements over earlier helicopter generations. Component-overhaul economics dominate ownership cost.
The Agusta A109 (and modern AW109 Power, Grand and GrandNew) is the fast, sleek, retractable- gear light twin that defined Italian corporate-helicopter style — ~150-168 kt cruise, twin-engine redundancy, a refined VIP cabin and the retractable landing gear that sets it apart from most light twins. Produced from the 1970s (A109) through the modern AW109 GrandNew, it's used in corporate/VIP transport, EMS and law enforcement. Fast, good-looking and capable, the 109 competes with the Bell 429 and EC135 — typically with higher cruise speed and the distinctive retractable gear.
