About the Bombardier Challenger 601-1A
The Bombardier Challenger 601 is the original large-cabin Challenger — a 1980s-90s rework of Bill Lear's LearStar concept, with the widest cabin in its class at the time. Variants include the 601-1A (1983-87, GE CF34-1A), 601-3A (1987-93, with EFIS), 601-3R (1993-96) and 601-3A/ER (extended range). Predecessor of the 604/605/650. As an older twin-engine large jet, the 601 is the most affordable way into a large-cabin Challenger — but engine reserve, mandate upgrades and cabin avionics modernisation are key cost factors.
Produced 1983–1996. Total produced: 260.
