Seller reportedDescription
Offered for sale is one of the most historically significant non-pressurized Lancair IVs ever built. N805L, Serial Number IV0011, was designed, built, and raced by renowned builder and pilot Livio Bognuda. With only 573.5 tach hours and 785 Hobbs hours, this exceptional aircraft combines championship-winning performance, award-winning craftsmanship, and outstanding cross-country capability. Powered by a 350 HP Continental TSIO-550 engine with its original factory configuration and paired with an MT 4-blade composite constant-speed propeller, N805L delivers remarkable performance while retaining exceptionally low time for its vintage. The aircraft is equipped with a modern Garmin GTN-750 and GTN-725 touchscreen GPS/NAV/COM suite along with a Garmin GDU-37X display, providing an excellent IFR-capable avionics package. Race #9 is a proven champion with a documented competition history that includes three consecutive Redmond 100 Air Race victories in 1996, 1997, and 1998, achieving speeds of over 320 MPH. It also competed successfully in the Reno National Championship Air Races, earning a Gold Final appearance in 2000. Beyond the race course, N805L has received national recognition as the cover aircraft for Plane Pilot magazine's Oshkosh '95 issue and earned an EAA AirVenture Oshkosh Lindy Award for craftsmanship, along with numerous Best in Show and Homebuilt awards. The aircraft features a striking custom multi-color paint scheme and a beautifully finished tan leather interior, making it as impressive on the ramp as it is in the air. The aircraft received a fresh Annual Inspection, Pre-Sale Inspection, and Propeller Inspection on April 2, 2026, by a Lancair-specialized A P/IA. Original logbooks, current operating limitations, and weight and balance documentation are included. The Continental TSIO-550 engine has never been overhauled and has significant remaining life relative to published TBO. In the interest of complete transparency, the aircraft was involved in a documented NTSB ground incident on October 2, 1996, while stationary on a taxiway at Reno-Stead Airport awaiting takeoff clearance. A Hawker Sea Fury taxied into the rear of the aircraft, damaging the empennage. The Lancair was not in flight, and its pilot was not at fault. Builder Livio Bognuda personally replaced the damaged vertical stabilizer, horizontal stabilizer, elevator, and rudder using new factory Lancair components installed in accordance with the factory manual. All repairs are fully documented in the original logbooks. Following these repairs, the aircraft went on to achieve its greatest racing successes, including three consecutive Redmond 100 championships and a Reno Gold Final appearance. One of only approximately 110 non-pressurized Lancair IV aircraft ever built, N805L represents a rare opportunity to own a truly unique, award-winning, championship-winning example of one of the fastest and most respected experimental aircraft ever produced. The aircraft is located at Santa Maria Public Airport (SMX), California. Original logbooks, race history documentation, and award records are available to qualified buyers. Pre-purchase inspections are welcomed and encouraged.
