About the Piper Cherokee
The Piper Cherokee (PA-28) is one of the most successful light aircraft families ever built — a low-wing piston single in continuous production since 1960. The line spans the original Cherokee 140/160/180 and 235, the tapered-wing Warrior (PA-28-161), the 180-hp Archer (PA-28-181, still built today), the 235-hp fixed-gear Dakota, and the retractable-gear Arrow (PA-28R). All are docile, forgiving four-seaters powered by Lycoming O-320 or O-360 engines, which is why the Cherokee remains the default trainer and first owner-aircraft for pilots worldwide.
Produced 1961–1978. Total produced: 32,000.
