The Mooney 231 (M20K) is the turbocharged Mooney — introduced 1979 with a 210 hp Continental TSIO-360 engine that holds power to altitude, cruising in the low 200s of knots above 16,000 feet. The original 231 was followed by the intercooled 252 (1986) and the further-refined Encore (1997+), each addressing the original's heat-management issues. For high, hot or mountain flying in a Mooney, the M20K family is the right choice — the price is somewhat thirstier fuel burn and the maintenance overhead of a turbocharged engine.
