Description
The perfect balance of rugged backcountry utility and manageable operating costs. Its conventional gear is designed for high ground clearance and less drag in rough terrain like sand, snow, or tall grass. The 230 hp Continental O-470-R engine provides ample power for short-field takeoffs without the higher fuel burn and complexity of fuel-injected engines. Pilots often prefer the 180 because it retains manual flaps and a simple carburetor system, which are easier to maintain and less likely to fail in remote locations. While newer models became heavier, the 180H is still noted for its light and responsive controls. It is a highly capable crosswind airplane that, once "stuck" to the ground, is remarkably docile.
