This type of glider was manufactured between 1969 and 1985, before being replaced by the Discus. The Standard Cirrus G86 Glider first flew in 1969 and is fitted with a laminar flow wing that spans 15 metres. This glider is somewhat different in design by being fitted with a stabilator, which means that the whole tail plane moves to control the aircraft in pitch. This makes the glider rather sensitive in pitch. Schempp-Hirth manufacturered gliders out of Kirchheim unter Teck, which is the Baden Wurttemberg region of Germany.
