Seller reportedDescription
For sale is an excellent Wittman Tailwind W8 in lovely condition ready for the upcoming flying season. Fresh permit - valid to 28/05/27 The Wittman Tailwind W8 was designed in the US by race pilot Steve Wittman as an affordable, easy to handle aircraft with a high cruise speed to compete in amateur air racing, which could be built in a garage. This aircraft is fitted with the usual Continental O-200 100hp engine offering excellent efficiency coupled with a 120kt cruise speed. G-BMHL was certified and first flew in 1986 and has since flown 1,618 hours. This figure is rising as the aircraft is in regular use. The aircraft is currently operated from our own 540m farm strip, showing its short field capability. Once in the air it flies stable and with 4 hours endurance at 120kts - is a true go places aeroplane. The aircraft features a Funke 8.33 radio as well as Trig Transponder. An oil cooler was recently fitted as an LAA mod ensuring the engine runs sweet. The magnetos benefit from having their 500hr inspection carried out just 18hrs ago and are good for another 482 hours. Furthermore the engine is dry with no oil leaks and starts sweetly on its electric starter. The airframe itself is in good condition. It retains its original fabric and paint which is showing some flaking however the fabric is in excellent condition having always been hangared. Any inspection is welcome. The aircraft comes with two propellers - a wooden Ken Fern and a McCauley metal prop. The Ken Fern is quite a course prop and the McCauley is more suited to shorter fields due to higher RPM on take off. I currently have the McCauley prop fitted which gives a take off run of around 300m on my grass strip with 2pob.
