A rare and original 1939 Piper J3L Cub, rolling off the production line only weeks before the outbreak of WW2 in August 1939. G-CIIW is one of the few surviving original J3L Cubs fitted with the Lycoming O-145-B2 engine. 1939 Piper J3L Cub - G-CIIW Aircraft Details: Engine: Lycoming O-145-B2 TTAF: approx. 3,325 hrs TTE: approx. 867 hrs Prop: Sensenich W70LY-34 Empty Weight: 325Kg MTOW: 499kg Unsealed Struts Permit valid until August 2026 - will be sold with a fresh permit Fuel & Performance: Benefit of a main tank plus wing tank providing 18 gallons total fuel capacity Approx. 5 hours endurance Fuel burn: approx. 3.5 Imp gal / 16L per hour Approved for UL91/4, 100LL, and E5 Mogas under the LAA Mod scheme Condition & Maintenance: Restored in 2017 by Cooper Aerial Surveys, including a full recover. Airframe and fabric remain in good condition. Two cylinder heads were overhauled in 2024 by Richard Kimberley Services following low compression readings. Since overhaul, all four cylinders have consistently shown excellent compression (80/80 on the last two annual inspections). Oil has been changed every 20 hours, or seasonally in spring/winter regardless of hours flown. Currently sipping very little oil on 15W-50. Equipment: External antenna for a radio Two-place intercom with GA plugs Compatible with radios using dual GA plug adapters Intercom powered by 9V battery Active carbon monoxide detector Many original instruments A substantial collection of O-145 engine spares is included in the sale, including: Crankshafts Cylinder heads Crankcases Pistons & rods Valves, guides & seats Camshafts NOS piston rings Gaskets Spark plug inserts All parts stored in a temperature-controlled storage unit.
