Description

Quickie Tri Q200 G-BMFN (FN) is an unusual, rare (and fairly quick) aircraft. It was built in the UK as a Q200 ( 2seat, 100 HP) by EMK Aeroplane in the early 1980s from a QAC kit. It first flew as a Taildragger in 1986, before being modified in 1987 into a TRI Q200. It was the first TRI Q200 to fly in the UK, being displayed at the PFA (LAA) 40th Anniversary Rally in 1988. FN is only 1 of 2 UK built TRI Q200 versions that are still flying, peculiarly both started as Tail draggers. The benefit of the Tricycle landing gear is no added stress to the Canard on landing and no nose-over on braking. This year is FN's 40th birthday, which coincides with the LAA (PFA) 80th Anniversary rally in September (2026). FN has had 4 owner / custodians over its 40 years, each has left their mark. Time now for the next custodian to buy in and carry on its journey. Would suit someone that has a good Light aircraft engineering background, preferably with some composite experience and who has capable piloting skills. Help with initial pilot conversion and maintenance activities can be provided if required for cover of expense costs. If you would like to see what its like to fly, there is a video on YouTube of its Check flight 2024, link at the bottom of the advert. (For a little summarised history of the Quickie Aircraft Corporation (QAC) see the end of this advert). FN's iconic Star Wars styled shape still gets a lot of attention. Current specification (see below) possesses a modern well equipped semi glass cockpit and innovative avionic specification, dual battery busbar system. Uprated landing gear Etc. Summary of the current specification for FN is as follows. (As of June 2026). All known ADs, TADS and SBs have been checked and complied with to date. Video The Quickie Aircraft Corporation (QAC), a US Company, came about around 1978 when 3 guys thought it would be great to produce an aircraft shape inspired by Star Wars, which was then just recently released. The story goes that the first thoughts for the X Wing shape Quickie 1 were penned by Burt Rutan on a napkin for Tom Jewett and Gene Sheehan over coffee in the flight line cafe in Mojave. The 3 brought the Q1 to life and later Jewett and Sheehan derived the 2 seat Q2 and the Continental 0200 powered Q200. The Q1, Q2 and Q200 were all tail draggers. The Q200 was further derived by Scott Swing into the TRI Q200, with a tricycle landing gear configuration and a few other improvements.
