1939 Fairchild 24R9/40 Argus UC-61F Forwarder, Veteran This pre-war 4 seat cabin airplane is one of only 2 UC-61Fs in the world. USAAF designation 42-97419. Original civilian Registration was NC18686, serial #425.. This aircraft was impressed into war-time service in the United States with the US Army Air Corps and Civil Air Patrol. The early Ranger powered Argus' were sometimes referred to as “short nosedâ€. This is the most comfortable airplane I have flown for its size. It is truly an executive class airplane of its time, and the art-deco style of the design makes it a real eye-catcher. The landing gear is made up of oil struts with a spring bottom end- which results in some fantastically soft landings, even on the bumpy turf runways in the UK. Spats have not been installed due to the consistent turf runway use, but do come with the sale. There are split-flaps, operated by a johnson bar between the pilot seats. Flight controls are via stick and bearing end-pushrod controls. This results in an incredibly smooth control feel. Performance is quite similar to a Cessna 172, but with shoulder room! The airplane is in very good condition and has been looked after with a no-expense spared mindset on maintenance and upkeep. It was shipped over from the US in 2020, and spent a year and a half doing extensive investigative upgrades upon arrival in the UK. New Trig TY96 8.33 Radio Cleveland wheels and brakes Jasco Alternator 110 mph economy cruise at 10 gph. 120 Mph at 12 gph. Oil burn is '½ qt per hour. 200hp Ranger Engine, 43 SMOH. There is a 0 time SMOH spare ranger engine with accessories installed. Log for spare engine indicates it was rebuilt for experimental use. N Registered N232E.
