Seller reportedDescription
C-47A 42-100903 is a Historic National Treasure. It served in the 95th Troop Carrier Squadron, flew to Europe by the equatorial route, and landed at Exeter, England, on 3/15/44. For D-Day, #903 is in a photo near #920 which carried The Dirty Dozen. 95th TCS Operations Orders at the National Archives (NARA) in College Park, Md., show #903 on: 1. June 5 was listed as a spare, but may still have flown the night mission. 2. June 6 from 8 pm to 10 pm flew a resupply mission to France. 3. June 7 flew from 4:30 am to 8:30 am to drop suplies to the 82nd and 102st Airborne in Mision Memphis 4. August 15 flew from 2:20 am to 6:20 am Operation Dragoon, the invasion of Southern France from Rome, towing a glider, and dropping paratroopers. 5. Sept 8 flew a mission from Exeter, England, to Brussels. 6. Sept 17 flew Mission Market, dropping paratroopers behind enemy lines near Groesbeck, Holland. 7. Sept 18 towed a glider to Holland. 8. Sept 23 towed a glider to Holland. 9. March 22, 1945, flew Mission Varsity, towing a glider. NARA has reports from pilots of #903 and of the gliders for these missions. #903 underwent restoration from 2010-2012, after which it seemed close to flying again. It sustained slight damage when placed on a truck to move it, and this has yet to be repaired. It can easily be trucked anywhere in the US. Registered as N141JR, "JR" is offered for $200,000, but any bid will be considered. It is a great and easy project for anyone with a passion. It can also be a great project for someone with a financial motive, as after maybe $100,000 of labor, it might be worth $700,000. It is also a great project for volunteers.
Engine
1830-92s. These ran fine in 2010, but have not been run since.
Interior
JR has original green primer throughout, which is a thrill. It had three pinups from Esquire magazine in 1944, which someone cut out and glued to the walls. The one from June 1944 is still there. The other two are just glue outlines now.
