Description
The Jackaroo was developed at Thruxton aerodrome in Hampshire to create a four-seat cabin biplane, using war surplus Tiger Moth air frames. Two prototypes were built at Thruxton in 1956; G-AOEX was finished as a standard four-seater with cabin & known as a Series 1. It was test flown by Lt-Cdr Pat Shea-Simonds on March 2, 1957.
Purchased by Arthur Christian in 1985 (the aircraft he originally learned to fly in!), hangered for over a decade before being lovingly restored to its original former glory. This restoration was complete in December 22.
Following the flight of this first prototype in March 1957, a total of nineteen aircraft were converted, three for use as crop sprayers, only five of these are airworthy today.
